Press conference

German Shadow Kiss
Okay, before I get going, I need to get something out of the way that's been causing an international frenzy. Maybe frenzy is too strong a word. Let's go with international confusion. If you live in the U.S. and have been chatting with someone from Australia about Spirit Bound, you may have noticed something peculiar. The American copy of SB names Sonya's guardian/lover as Mikhail Tanner. The Australian (and UK and who knows what else) edition names him as Tomas Sanders.

Richelle, what up?

Well, plain and simple, a typo. One that's my fault. In the first VA book, Sonya's guardian is called Mikhail, and when I wrote SB, I forgot that he'd already been named. So, I called him Tomas and wrote all of Spirit Bound that way, all the way to final proofing. Later, when I realized the mistake, we were able to correct the American editions just barely in time. Unfortunately, it was so close to production (really, it's a miracle the U.S. got it corrected) that it didn't make it into the international editions. So, two names. I apologize for this, but here's the truth: I'm hardly a perfect writer. I can keep huge, complex and overarching stories in my head easily, but these little details sometimes totally slip out of my memory. Last Sacrifice, to my knowledge, will have Mikhail in all countries...but who knows? Maybe those publishers will choose to stick with Tomas. Regardless, I'm sorry again and hope this hasn't created too much confusion! Maybe we should play it safe and just give him a celebrity couple name, like TomKhail.

But here's some happier news to make up for my silliness. We are in a majorly productive work zone here at Casa Mead. Today, I finished Iron Crowned, book 3 of the Eugenie/Dark Swan series, which is also the fourteenth book of my career. Crazy talk. It'll still need editing, but that's nothing new. For now, it's off my plate, and tomorrow I'll jump into the third draft of Last Sacrifice for a couple weeks. After that...guess what? Back to Eugenie! Some of you may remember me saying that because Iron Crowned got delayed, the next Eugenie book was going to come right on its tails. And it is.

And finally, you know what else? Throughout all of this, plans are coming into motion for the VA spin-off series. I'm still quite a ways off from writing the first book (say, like, September), but those who've heard me at signings know that I have to have the whole series planned out before I start it. So, I'm now hacking away at that and finalized the preliminary premise for the series, as well as a rough outline for the first book today. I think it's going to be fun. It's different from anything I've done before, and there are two characters who are so awesome that I don't even think they need a plot. Coolness will just ensue whenever they walk onto the page. And even though the series is a long ways off from being written and published, we can expect info trickling in this year for the series title, first book title, etc.

So, yeah! Lots and lots of stuff going on around here, but don't worry--I have a NON-WORK vacation coming up, and it's going to be blog gold.

In closing, we have another international cover, sent in from the fabulous Maria. Shadow Kiss from Greece. It's Greek to me, but it looks pretty awesome in any language.

Aww, it's okay. Everyone makes mistakes. When I write (although my writing is horrid) I sometimes confuse characters names and stuff too, so no worries there. It's completely understandable.

I'm excited for the books! (And no I haven't been able to go and read SB yet... It's because of parents not allowing me to go and get it...) I'm excited for that spin off series after VA is done! (though I kind of don't want VA to end, you know? =P I'm selfish in that aspect)

Pretty cover!

Dude, Nat, tell your parents it's a matter of life and death, already! You can use me if you want; tell them I'll hunt you down if you don't read the book already! :D

I have to admit it is kind of good news to know even the most successful writers make mistakes sometimes! Give yourself a little credit look at how many series you have on the go for starters.

As an Aussie fan I have to say that I wasnt too concerned at the error. I was so caught up in all the excitement that the book got demolished without me picking Tomas til the second time round.

Congrats on finishing the 3rd Eugenie installment!

Lols well! As long as you've got enough grace to admit your mistakes. AND, at least now we know your no perfect. Makes us unpublished folk feel a little better. However, I'm really looking forward to the VA spin-off. Please tell me Eddie will be in it!?

type mistake
no one is perfect richelle, and honestly once you get to spirit bound you don't even remember all the names in the book except for the mains. If it wasn't pointed out i would have been none the wiser. :)

non-work vacation?!
I had to lol because I wasn't sure you were aware such a thing existed (though you definitely deserve it!)
Any chance you'll make it back to Atlanta in September for dragoncon and the decatur book festival? Lots of fun stuff going on here that weekend!
Btw, that last scene with Georgina and Seth made me cry! I was really afraid he might go through with the wedding...thank gods he didn't!
Between your writing (and publishing) speed and all your signings, I'm in awe (and incredibly appreciative.) Thanks again for all the great reads!

Three book series, 14th book in your (relatively) young-ish career... somewhere, something's gotta give. Very understandable.

Cheers to Iron Crowned!

it's okay. you're still my favorite :) i know a lot of authors who's got typo errors in their books.

here in manila philippines, i literally beg the messenger from National Bookstore to have my book delivered in one of their branches near my work and so i got mine on May 19th. While with Blood Promise, i got it from US, asked my cousin to buy it for me and i got it 2 months after Aug 25!

Would i be a bad fan if i said i liked Tomas better? im from Australia, and when reading the book i picked it up, but i thought it sounded better than the other name. I think you should keep Tomas, the name, to me somehow completes his character. Thats just my "bad fan" opinion.

Shadow Kiss
Wow! I have to say the Greek covers astounds me. Being half Greek I have a tendency to stare at the covers for a long time lol :P In this case the direct translation is "Kiss of the Shadow". I'm glad it wasn't changed :D

Aww. Richelle. As people have said, we all make mestakes. It's awesome that you've cleared it all up though. :0)

The Spin-off. Well, I'd prefure you to write another six Rose (and Dimitri!) books, but I guess I'll take what I can get, lol. Looking foward to it though. Also looking foward to seeing (besides Sydney) who the characters are going to be.

Congrats Richelle! 14 masterpieces from you!!!

Also thank you for all the info! I was really curious about your writing schedule!!

Now the only thing I wanted to know is when is Georgina´s 6 coming up? Will you write still this year? Do you know your publisher release dates for 2011 yet?

Will you write it after Spin-off 1?

Congrats and thank you again for making us know all this!

By the way, go to University Bookstore!!! ;)

Thank you for clearing up the TomKhail thing. If they do end up re-printing them with "Mikhail" instead, those with "Tomas Sanders" will just have special editions, haha.
Congrats on finishing your fourteenth book. And I'm glad the spin-off series in fall into place. Can't wait to read about these awesome-no-plot-necessary characters!

No worries!
Hey Richelle,
Think on the bright side. If & when Mikhail's alter ego gets blasted into space, those first editions are going to be worth gold! As popular as your becoming, it wouldn't surprise me to find people selling those books for at least $100 a pop in about five or ten years. Maybe you should try to sweet talk someone into sending you a copy. :p

a perfect world
It makes me crazy that people criticize an author. You can dislike a book but to say that the author made a mistake or “got it wrong” is blasphemy in my mind. Because it is your incredible world that you have invited me into, and honestly it’s a pretty great world.

Thanks for all the hard work and great books, I love them!

Order Online
I never bother waiting for new books at bookstores here in Malaysia.. buying from Amazon and delivering them all the way to Malaysia, is cheaper than buying from the local bookstores (USD5 cheaper).. I may or may not get the books before they start selling them in the local bookstores.. If I can survive waiting anxiously for RM's next book (even though RM writes fast), I can survive a few days wait.. But, to those who couldn't buy the books from local bookstores.. check online store! :) I love SB so much! :)

You just wait, books with Tomas in them will become highly sought-after collector's editions going for hundreds of dollars on eBay! :D

I'm curious, though, if the name is changed for Last Sacrifice, will there be a note at the beginning explaining what happened, or will you just hope the readers will figure it out?

I can't believe 14 books in, what, under five years? Impressive! And they're all great, too! :D
