Like all trips to Michigan, we've already been to Meijer--the super superstore we so badly miss in Washington. And like all trips to Meijer, we came home with a wacky assortment of goods: batteries, vodka, and jalapeno poppers. We opted out of lumber, clothing, or pets this time. And speaking of pets, I learned from my brother tonight that when you hit (and usually kill) a deer with your car around here, the cops ask if you want to keep the deer or donate it to a food bank. This was a surprise to me--but apparently not to a lot of people on Twitter and Facebook, who have already told me this is a common question where they live too. I also need to clarify for some who have asked: when I talk about hitting and killing a deer out here, it's by accident. People in Michigan don't go around purposely trying to take out deer with cars.
Well, at least not in the lower peninsula.
